You will be advising and representing members of the public under the supervision of qualified members of staff and may even need to represent your client at court or tribunal.
Whichever course you choose, at Northumbria you will receive an unprecedented level of careers support that provides regular interactions and sessions throughout your time with us. You will also be part of a law school that has extensive links with local and national firms and Chambers. Many of our teaching staff continue to practise, and many more maintain links with the profession.
Facilities
Northumbria Law School is located on a modern, state-of-the-art development in central Newcastle. The ground floor contains our largest ‘Harvard-style’ lecture theatres, accommodating up to 400 people. In addition to this, the ground floor is where our Student Engagement Centre can be found, designed to enhance your career prospects by promoting experiential learning opportunities such as internships, placements, volunteering opportunities and law clinics.
Our first floor is home to our specialist Law Practice Library, which contains practitioner materials, journals and law reports. Alongside the library is the Queen’s Award-winning Student Law Office, where law students can participate in a legal advice and representation scheme on behalf of real clients. The Law Office is designed to enhance students’ academic and professional development, and runs as a full legal service, just like any other firm of solicitors.
On the third floor, we have a specially designed courtroom, equipped with recording facilities which enable students to gain real-life exposure to what they can expect to experience in a courtroom scenario.
